Diwali is the Indian festival of lights. usually lasting five days and celebrated during the Hindu Lunisolar month Kartika. Diwali also know as "Deepavalli" is celebrated in India, it is a symbolises the victory of good over evil.Diwali is celebrated 20 days after Lord Ram killed Ravana (Dusshera) and rescued Sita from captivity in Lanka. The celebration marks the return of Lord Ram to Ayodha after 14 years of exile.
Diwali is called the Festival of Lights and is celebrated to honor Rama-chandra, the seventh avatar (incarnation of the god Vishnu). It is believed that on this day Rama returned to his people after 14 years of exile during which he fought and won a battle against the demons and the demon king, Ravana.
It might surprise some people to learn that the tradition actually has it roots in how Mughal emperors celebrated Diwali. It was Muhammad bin Tughlaq, who ruled Delhi from 1324 to 1351, who became the first emperor to celebrate a Hindu festival inside his court.
